Tira News 07/30 by Jan Vaughn
Mark your calendars for the annual Hot August Night BBQ Cook-off and music event at the Hopkins County Civic Center on Saturday, August 16th. Phil Vassar will be the featured performer. The fundraiser benefits the county volunteer fire departments. Please make plans to attend and support your local firefighters. The BBQ grounds will open at 1:00 p.m., with cooks preparing their entries, vendors and a kids’ zone. Serving of the BBQ meal will begin at 5:00 and the concert will start at 7:00, inside the civic center arena.
Billy Moss returned to Tira and attended the worship service at the Tira Methodist Church on Sunday, where he played the Doxology on his guitar. He enjoyed meeting the new pastor, David Larkin, and his wife, Charlotte. He commented that being back in Tira was “a true homecoming blessing” and he hopes to make Tira his residence soon.
Several descendants of Alfred and Fannie Vaughn gathered at the North Hopkins School Cafeteria on Saturday for their annual family reunion. Everyone enjoyed a delicious pot-luck lunch and visiting. Our son, Delayne Vaughn, was in from Waco to attend the event with us. Our daughter, Tiffany Peugh and her husband Jacob, and children Morgan, Jaidyn, and Jakota were there, too. Others present included Dortheal Speed, Jo Nell Willis, Nancy and Mitchell McCarty, Linda Ellen and Grace Vaughn, Emily Vaughn, Chrissy Hall, John, Linda, Jason, Patty, Natalie, Jackson, Nicole, Rhett, Casen, and Carson Vaughn, Lori, Harley, Brian, Caitlin, and Roman Vaughn, Crystal and J. D. Miller, and Ethan Thomas and his friend. We missed those who couldn’t attend. Kenden Joslin participated in the youth retreat with Dike Baptist Church on Friday and Saturday. Tyler and Collin Peugh returned on Tuesday from a month-long trip to visit their mother in Florida.
