Funeral services with military honors for Richard I. Thompson, age 85 of Cumby will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Ditmer and Bob Woodworth officiating. Graveside Services and interment will follow at Chandler Memorial Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. in Chandler, TX with Tony McCoy officiating. Jace Thomas, Rick Thompson, Mike Thompson, George Thompson, Wayne Bledsoe, Lanny Rainey, Joseph Sims and Jimmy Sims serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Noah Stone and Nathan Stone.
Richard passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at The Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. He was born in Coppers Cove, TX on March 16, 1929, the son of Spencer and Hulda Elizabeth Jennie RoyeThompson. He married Jo Sims Littlefield on April 7, 2005 in Red River, New Mexico. She survives.
Richard served in the U.S. Army, was a member of the Mt. Zion Church and also a Mason with the Cumby Chapter.
Survivors include: daughter, Joan Thomas and husband, Jody of Chandler; grandchildren, Jordan Thomas and Jace Thomas; step-daughters, Janet Basham of Sulphur Springs and Billie Stone and husband, Scott of Denton; five step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and sister, Janice Burt and husband, Ben of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edwin Thompson and step-daughter, Janae Littlefield.
