Loyd Chester

Funeral Services for Loyd “Red” Chester, age 89 of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Davis St. Baptist Church with Tommy Hall officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow at Sulphur Bluff Cemetery with Rodney Bridgers, Greg Oliver, Bryan Chester, Kris Helms, Taylor Bridgers, Peyton Bridgers, Hunter Helms and Hayden Helms serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be held Saturday, February 14, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.

Loyd “Red” passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.

He was born on July 20, 1925, the son of Loyd Franklin and Bertie Mae (Bassham) Chester in Sulphur Bluff.  He served in the Pacific Theatre in World War II as a Navy medic assigned to the Marine Corp.  Following his military duty, he worked as a Postal Inspector.  He retired from the Postal Service after a thirty year career.

He married Billie Dean McKinnon on December 14, 1946 in Sulphur Springs.  She survives.

Other survivors include daughter, Karen Oliver and husband, Robert of Red Oak; son, Kevin Chester and wife, Darla of Waxahachie; grandchildren, Kam Bridgers and husband, Rodney, Greg Oliver, Bryan Chester and Jodi Helms and husband, Kris; great-grandchildren, Taylor Bridgers, Peyton Bridgers, Hunter Helms and Hayden Helms; sister, Sue Wells, sisters-in-law, Ruby McKinnon and Bobbie May.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Hennessee and two brothers,  William “Bill” Chester and Jay Chester.
