The annual World Champion Hopkins County Stew Contest is coming up Saturday in Buford Park. The context will feature 161 pots of stew. Chamber of Commerce Executive Meredith Caddell is hoping for the best weather-wise. Ms. Caddell said excitement is building as stew-cooks are preparing for the event. Friday night, activity will begin on the stew grounds in Buford Park. T-shirts will be for sale both Friday night and Saturday. Stew aprons will also be for sale.
Weather could be a factor this year with a 70% chance of rain currently predicted for Friday and Saturday. Caddell said the area needs the rain and the cool weather will make the event pleasant. She said the forecast will not dampen the spirits of those involved.
Parking will be at a premium Friday night with Wildcat football at Prim Stadium and the event across Buford Circle in the park. The Corvette Show, stew, football, Fall Festival, and other events will make for a busy weekend in Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County.
