Two Lady Cats’ Track Athletes Headed to Meet

Two Lady Cats’ track athletes are heading to an area track meet next week after their performances on the first day of competition at the district track meet Monday at Pine Tree. Freshman Sydney Washburn recorded her best time all year and finished third in the 1600-meter run to qualify. Imani Taylor won the long jump with a leap of 17-feet, 9-inches to qualify. Two other Lady Cats scored points for their team in the event. N’ysa Dugan was fifth and Abbi Baier sixth. Carrington Chancellor, who has only been pole vaulting for several weeks, also scored points with a fifth place finish. She was just inches away from qualifying for the area meet. Lady Cats Track Coach Triston Abron said out of eleven of his athletes, ten of them did well enough to qualify for finals in their events coming up Wednesday. Coach Abron said there will be at least two Lady Cats in every event coming up Wednesday except the 200-meter race. He is still hopeful his team can win a district championship. After Monday, the Lady Cats were in third place behind Hallsville and Mt. Pleasant.
