Cpl. Todd Evans, a 19 year veteran deputy of the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office was honored by Sheriff Lewis Tatum and fellow officers Thursday morning in a ceremony at the County Jail/Sheriff’s office. Evans, a Master Peace Officer who has completed in excess of 1900 hours of continuing education hours, is a field training officer and has previously been awarded Officer of the Year. He was honored Thursday for his work ethic and perseverance related to the hunt for a fugitive, Melroy Givens.
Cpl. Evans was able to uncover information that led to the capture of Givens. He also coordinated a multi-jurisdictional response composed of Hopkins county Sheriff’s Office, Special Crimes Unit, and the DeSoto Police Department. He also personally assisted in the apprehension of the longtime fugitive.
Sheriff Tatum said, “I would like to commend Cpl. Evans for this act as well as his daily perseverance and leadership exhibited in his daily activities. I know that when Cpl. Evans assistance is requested, he will do everything in his power to quickly, professionally, and ethically handle the situation in front of him.”
