In Hopkins County basketball, the Miller Grove Hornets remained unbeaten in district play as Kobe Robertson hit a game winning basket at the buzzer to give the Hornets a 45-43 win over Saltillo Friday night (February 2). The Hornets trailed at the half 24-18 but rallied in the second half to win. For the Hornets, Luke Brignon scored 14, Andjelo Alcox 12, Treyton Andree 11, Robertson 6 and Albert Serrano 2. For the Lions, Trevor Moore had 19, Walker McGill 9, Matthew Gurley 7, Chris Boekhorst 4 and Levi Hoover and Lyle Bench had 2 points each. Miller Grove is 6-0 in district play and 20-13 for the season. Saltillo is 4-2 in district play and 18-15 for the season. Miller Grove plays Sulphur Bluff Tuesday night (February 6).
In girls play, the Saltillo Lady Lions defeated Miller Grove, 60-32 Friday night (February 2). Madison Simmons had 28 points. Jocelyn Ochoa had 12, Tori Mobley and Maddy Smith 6 points apiece, Shelby Matlock and Chandler Bain 3 points each and Jordan Sustaire 2 points. The Lady Lions are 7-0 in district play and 16-15 for the season. The Saltillo Lions and Lady Lions play at Roxton Tuesday evening (February 6).
One more note: in boys play, the North Hopkins Panthers defeated the Cumby Trojans, 43-30 Friday (February 2).
