Bobby Ray “Buddy” Ferrell, 80, of Commerce, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at his residence surrounded by loving family.
Buddy was born in Hopkins County, Texas, on January 9, 1938, to Minnie Cecil Burns and Thomas Grady Ferrell. In 1959 Buddy worked for 1 year as an equipment operator at McKinsey Asphalt in Greenville until he entered the United States Air Force in 1960. Upon being discharged from the service in 1964, he returned to McKinsey Asphalt and worked there until 1986. He then went to work for the City of Commerce from 1986-1997. In 1998, he retired as an equipment operator while working for Hunt County, Precinct 4. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Commerce. Buddy enjoyed spending time with his horses, cows and gardening. Buddy married Hazel Jean Moreland (Ferrell) in May of 1976. They were married until her death on September 18, 1992.
On March 30, 1994 he married Maryjane Ferrell. She survives him. Other survivors include his children: Terrie & Larry Thompson of Klondike, TX., Tracie & Lance Oliver of Honey Grove, TX., Tammie Ferguson of Charleston, TX., Babette & Gaylon Steel of Commerce, TX., Evette & Shannon Moreland of Lubbock, TX., Roy L. Henly ll of Sulphur Springs, TX., Robert & Betsy Henly of Leeburg, VA. His brother, Don & Kim Ferrell of Bach Springs, TX., his sister, Teddie & Rick Poston of Paris, TX., and sister-in-law, Virginia Ferrell of Rockwall, TX.,. He is also survived by his Aunt Betty Lou Hobbs of Richardson, TX., Aunt Billy Ruth Tunnell of Richardson, TX., and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held at Cross Trails Church on Saturday, October 13, 2018, from 1:00 P.M. until service time at 3:00 P.M.
Funeral service with military honors will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018, at 3:00 P.M. at Cross Trails Church, 4761 FM 1563, Commerce.
The Ferrell family is requesting in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Humane Society, 7817 S. Cooper St. Arlington, Texas 76001.
Pallbearers will be Roy Henly lll, Colton Henly, Nolan Henly, Kade Millsap, Mason Narramore (USMC), Patrick Kelley, Andrew Fisk and Donald Kelly.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Channalt, Clifton Haddock, Greg Robinson and Bryan Thompson.
Arrangements are under the direction of Jones-Walker and Son Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Commerce.
