Dorothy N. Carlton, 85, of Commerce passed away on Saturday evening, February 23, 2019 in Commerce.
Mama Nell, as she was lovingly known to many, was everybody’s mama. She loved cooking and will always be remembered for her pork chops, soft fried potatoes, and cherry cheesecake (just to name a few of her specialties). During her earlier years, she loved to dance and was known for her work ethic; she was definitely a hard worker and a great waitress. Nell was also known for the pleasure she derived from talking on the phone; you didn’t want to start a conversation with her on the phone unless you had a “while” to spend with her. Mawmaw, as she was called by her grandkids loved to host Thanksgiving gatherings and thoroughly enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Her later years were occupied with Days of Our Lives, Judge Judy, Wheel of Fortune, and watching television sermons.
Survivors include her sons, Larry Keels and Ronney Belcher, her daughters; Tammy Carlton and Patressa Reynolds, her grandchildren: Keisha Edwards, Kayla Fields, Robert Fields, Tiffany Keels, Ricky Belcher, Amy (Hughes) Peterson, Phillip Wright, Sanford Belcher, Melanie Rodriguez, Chasity Sampson, Annie (Jerri) Dalton, Colton Brewer, Ashton Carter, Sherri Domingue, Kirsten Turner and Micah Domingue, numerous great-grandchildren, and a sister Cynthia (Cindy) K. Engle. Dorothy Nell was also survived by nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
