Marlene DeYong and Katie Moss Steelman are Main Street business owners. They both own and operate retail clothing shops in downtown Sulphur Springs, and they both employ practical and innovative ways to reach the shopping public, echoing the same message, “shop and spend with your local merchants in your home town!” Both Marlene’s Sass and Class and Simply Spoiled carry a broad inventory of ladies and children’s clothing and accessories year round. But each December, Marlene and Katie team up to bring other unique goods to the local shopper in one special free day-long holiday shopping event. “Christmas Market on Main” is planned for Saturday December 7 between 9am and 4pm on the street of the 200 block of Main, which will be open to pedestrian traffic that day. Twenty-six vendors are already signed up to display their booths along Main Street, boosting the already exciting shopping atmosphere there.
In a KSST Good Morning Show interview, Marlene related, “we all want to find unique and well-selected gifts for people on our Christmas list. As many retailers are downsizing their shops and marketing online, our downtown merchants are doing just the opposite! Christmas Market on Main will place interesting displays and generous variety in front of shoppers to see and touch, like dolls, stuffed animals, hand-crocheted scarf sets, homemade Twelve Days of Christmas cookies, crafty home decor items for giving, trademark toys plus ornaments, pillows, soaps, lotions and more, produced by local crafters and artisans as well as vendors from other places”.
“Pictures with Santa” will be another big draw for local families. Between 1pm and 3pm Saturday, Rockstar Photos will be snapping scenes with Old St. Nick inside Simply Spoiled for a $20 donation. Bring your children and grandchildren for magical memories. Donations will be earmarked for needy families this holiday! We also plan to offer ‘Santa on the Street’ for shoppers looking for quick selfies with Santa while they shop Main Street. Plan to go inside every shop and business as well as visiting the vendors, and “shop at home” this Saturday! Find out more on Facebook or at [email protected]
