Barris Edwards Sims

Barris Edwards Sims, born May 19, 1941 in Como, Texas, began his journey as the oldest child born to Manly and L.V. Sims. He attended school in Como and Sandfield and later graduated from Douglas High School of Sulphur Springs. He then joined the United States Army serving his country for 3 years.

Barris and Vera Ann Hall were united in marriage on October 5, 1991. They share 29 beautiful years of marriage together.

Barris worked in many capacities for several entities including the United States Post Office, Rockwell International, Sulphur Springs Independent School District and even as a dog groomer but his most loved profession was that as a Servant in the Army of the Lord. He accepted Christ into his life and began his mission early in life. He served in any capacity he could, starting as a bus driver, then deacon and Evangelist before later serving as Pastor for over 34 years and co-founding Good News Christian Center. To all who knew he, serving and working for Christ was his ultimate accomplishment.

On May 8, 2020 Barris went to his Heavenly home to be with his Savior. He leaves to cherish his memories one son, Fredrick (Celesia) Smith of Como, Texas, and two daughters Tammy (Tyrone) Demery of Frisco, Texas and Toleia Sims of Sulphur Springs; 8 grandchildren Dedric Smith of Mino, N. Dakota, Shawana Wooten of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Andrew Wooten of Sulphur Springs, Texas, DeAndre’ Wright of Cooper, Texas, Aijalon Pryor of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Trevon Washington of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Marco Flores of Sulphur Springs, Texas and Mariah Demery of Frisco, Texas; 2 great-grandchildren Peyton Sneed of Sulphur Springs, Texas and Stella Wright of Cooper, Texas; 4 sisters Mary Neal of Como, Texas, Barbara Perry of Como, Texas, Elizabeth (Michael) Dale of Como, Texas and Linda Hutchins of Inglewood, CA; 2 brothers James Sims of Charlotte, NC and Manly (Cordelia Sims) of Greenville, Texas and a whole host of nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, uncles and aunts.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 15, 2020 at Coffee Cemetery. Visitation will be held during regular business hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, Thursday, May 14, 2020 at West Oaks Funeral Home.
