Funeral services for Vera Laverne Skaggs, age 83, of Sulphur Springs will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday,
November 15, 2021 at Wesley United Methodist Church with Bro. Joe Clark officiating. Interment will
follow at Seymore Cemetery with Chris Trout, Ryan Trout, Justin Smith, Danny Flemens, Sheldon Skaggs,
and Jason Bryant serving as pallbearers, honorary pallbearers will be the Wesley Sunday School class. A
visitation will be held Sunday, November 14, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., at West Oaks Funeral
Home. Mrs Skaggs passed away Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Good Life Senior Living in Heath, Texas.
Vera was born December 3, 1937 in Lampasas, Texas, the daughter of Oscar William and Lena Mae
Green McPhearson. Vera was a homemaker and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James Skaggs, two daughters, Sharon Ottmo, Catherine Smith and
husband Michael, son, Andrew Trout, Jr. and wife Debbie. Grandchildren, Tracy Kizer, Carla Lee, Jason
Trout, Daniel Flemens, Christopher Trout, Carmen Abbott, Chrystal Vargas, and Ryan Trout. step
daughter, Maggie Foster and husband Glen, step son, Gerald Skaggs and wife Diane, step son Sheldon
Skaggs. Step grandchildren, Ashley Foster, Sarah Foster, Jennifer Foster, and Ashley Skaggs. Numerous
great grandchildren and great – great – grandchildren, extended family and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, late husband, Andrew Trout, Sr., son, Rickey Trout, brothers,
J.D. McPhearson, and Truman McPhearson, sisters, Lola Mamo, and Faye (Tootsie) Parsley.
