March 22, 2023- AARP will be ending its free tax consultation on April 15th so set a appointment before its too late. Located in the Sulphur Springs Library, AARP members will be helping anyone who sets up an appointment either online or in person at the library. Forty appointments are still available before the deadline. To register for a appointment visit/call the Sulphur Springs Library or visit AARP Appointment Registration. Appointment dates are Tuesdays 9:30a.m. to 1:30p.m. and Saturdays 9:30a.m. to 12:30a.m.
Mary Lou Foster, an AARP aide, came by to speak with KSST and gave us some insight to the AARP workings. Foster stated that the average appointment time ranges from forty minutes to one hour. Before your appointment all taxpayers are to receive a packet at the Sulphur Springs Library. This packet will help your counselor get your taxes filed in a timely manner.
Mary Lou Foster also mentioned that AARP specializes in simple returns and people over fifty, however they help all those in need of tax help. Tax payers are not required to be members of the AARP to apply for tax help.
Photo identification, social security cards and all tax related papers are required to be available once the consultation has begun as these items are needed to file your taxes.
This year’s IRS deadline to file your taxes is April 18th, but your last day to get free help from AARP is April 15th. This year AARP has more counselors than the previous year, and expect to help three hundred and fifty tax payers this year.
