Wanda Roletta Walden, age 94, passed away peacefully at Lakeview Rehab in Winnsboro, Texas on Saturday, July 29, 2023. Roletta was born on June 7, 1929, in Greenville, Texas, the daughter of William Hiram and Oma Irene Norman. She graduated from Celeste High School in 1946 where she played basketball, softball and was a member of the Homemaking Club. She married Leon Walden on August 29, 1948, in Greenville. They were married for over 65 years when Leon passed away in 2013. Over the years, she and her husband Leon were very active in Commerce Church of Christ where Leon served as an Elder for over 30 years. They hosted many events at their home for college students who attended the Bible Chair while attending East Texas State University (TAMU-C). Roletta loved to play games and dominoes. She and Leon hosted many parties over the years in their home for the adult bible school class at Church. She was an avid gardener and loved canning vegetables and sharing them with members of the congregation. Leon and Roletta owned and operated Leon’s Heating and Air in Commerce for over 40 years before they retired. She would fight you for the “corner piece” of the cake AND she LOVED her a good steak!
Roletta was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leon, her sister Vela Atwood, brother Orlendo Neil Norman, daughter Patricia Campbell Logan and an infant great-granddaughter.
She is survived by her son Eric Walden and wife Lydia of Commerce; daughter Sara McFarland and husband Randy of Scroggins; grandchildren Tara Miles, Tracey Campbell and wife Kara, Eric Walden II and wife Danna, Jordan Walden and wife Katie, Micah Walden, Chesley Powell and husband Jon, Emily Stewart and husband Clayton. She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Visitation will be at West Oaks Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, TX on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 10:00 am followed by the memorial service at 11:00 am. Burial will be at Sonora Cemetery in Fairlie, Texas.
