Hopkins County Genealogical Society to Hold Next Lunch & Learn October 25th

The Hopkins County Genealogical Society invites members and nonmembers who want to learn more about doing genealogical research to join us on Wednesday, October 25th, 2023. Bring your sack lunch, salad or drive-through meal and meet with us from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the genealogy library, 611 N. Davis St., Sulphur Springs, Tx.

This month during “Lunch & Learn”, CarolAnn Dixon will be presenting the fifth part in HCGS’s series’ using FamilySearch entitled, Non-Population Schedules: The “Other” Censuses.

When we say we used “the census,” what we usually mean is that we used one specific part of the US federal census—specifically, the population schedule. It’s the population schedule that lists everyone by name (beginning in 1850) or the name of the head of household with an age/gender breakdown of the house (1790-1840).

But some federal censuses have other schedules that are useful in our genealogy. These “non-population” schedules don’t enumerate everyone like the population schedules do. Instead, they are focused on specific segments of people.

Please join CarolAnn as she walks you through this topic. You’re welcome to bring your laptop.
