Charles was born in Mount Vernon, Texas on July 11, 1957, to Dr. Otto Charles Walling, Jr., and Frances Lucille (Isham) Walling. He was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon.
In his early adult years, Charles enjoyed competing at Rodeos in Bull Riding events. His interest in cattle and ranching led him to membership in the American International Charolais Association. Working on his family’s ranch was very rewarding to him. Working cattle, spending days on a tractor, and building fences never seemed like work to him as he loved being outdoors. Charles also enjoyed the outdoors by spending time fishing or hunting. His hunting and fishing abilities combined well with his excellent cooking skills. Although known for his sweet potatoes, his deer chili and fried catfish were the best. It brought him great joy to share whatever he had prepared with family and friends. More than his love for cattle, the outdoors, and cooking was his deep love for his family. His greatest joy was the fun times spent with his children and grandchildren. His tender and loving heart was very evident whenever he would speak of them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Lucy Walling; son, Otto Charles “Charlie” Walling, IV and grandson, Chevy Walling.
Survivors include his daughter, Charlotte Walling; granddaughters, Isabella “Bella” Walling, Jamie Collins, and Caroline Burten; grandson, Jude Collins; 2 great grandchildren, Althea Rose Collins, and Ezra Parsons; siblings and their spouses, sister, Mary and Brad Burten; brother, Mark and Holly Walling; sister, Martha and Tim Bass and brother, Matt and Lisa Walling. Numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
