Marnetta “Marty” Rose, 76, passed away on January 2, 2024, in Dallas, Texas.
Marty Rose was born on July 15, 1947, in Dallas, TX, to Joe Laye and Vadna Laye.
Marty graduated from Garland High School in 1965 and attended Texas Women’s University and then went on to earn a degree in nursing from El Centro College in 1973. She started her career as a Registered Nurse working in numerous specialties over the course of her career which spanned over 40 years until she retired. From being a school nurse, a night shift house supervisor to working at Baylor Dental College and Terrell State Hospital. The latter half of her career she focused on Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing and subsequently earned her board certification.
Marty married James Rose on July 22nd, 1972 in Garland, TX. The couple had 1 child, Justin Rose, of Forney.
Marty enjoyed crocheting, working with ceramics, reading, gospel music and being outdoors among other various activities. If she were not chatting on the phone with friends or family or out in the yard visiting with her neighbors, you could find her gardening in her flowerbeds or on the riding lawn mower which she loved to do during the summertime. This was of course if she was not out cruising around town in her convertible and still without a hair out of place. If you knew Marty, you knew how important her weekly hair appointments were to her. She loved to relax in her hot tub but would still not get her hair wet.
When she was not caring for others as a nurse, she spent countless hours over the years as a CASA volunteer being an advocate for children in need to help ensure they had a happy, healthy, and safe environment to grow up in. This was in addition to her and her husband being foster parents for children in need for many years earlier on in her life. Marty would always say “People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care”. She was an active member for many years with the Northeast Texas Choral Society, organizing fundraisers, fostering community involvement, and serving as Secretary on the board of directors.
Marty was best known for the love she had for her grandson’s, family, friends, and her caring spirit towards everyone she met. She always wanted to help others in any way that she could, putting other people’s needs, even strangers a lot of times, before her own. She was fun to be around and had an enthusiastic sense of humor but could also be direct and to the point if the situation called for it. She was easy going and didn’t let a lot of things bother her unless she called you for supper and you were lollygagging around, or you parked behind her when she had to go to work. You would end up having to get a ride up to her work to get your car battery back. No one ever left her home hungry, it didn’t matter if it was suppertime or 12am, she made sure everyone who dropped by were fed. Legend has it she was also known by the kids around the neighborhood as “Marty Marty Pizza Party” due to her highly technical financially feasible store bought pizzas to which she always added extra ground beef, sliced cheese and of course her favorite, ketchup.
Marty is survived by her son, Justin Stewart Rose and wife Jennifer, grandchildren Alex and Aden Rose, Annetta Laye – her twin sister.
Marty is preceded in death by Joe Laye – father, Vadna Laye – mother, Clifton “Joe” Scott, Jr. – brother.
