Betty Marilyn Lightfoot, age 86, of Mount Vernon, Texas passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born in Hopkins County, Texas to Waymon Carl Newsome, Sr., and Sybil Lee (Davis) Newsome on July 30, 1937. She married Harold Don Lightfoot on April 8, 1955. Betty worked as a secretary. She was an avid reader and loved her family, especially the grandchildren and the great grandchildren and she was the best MeMe to them.
She was preceded in death by a son, Harold Don Lightfoot, Jr.; her parents; a brother, Waymon Newsome; and a sister, Norma Billups.
Those that will forever cherish her memory is her husband of 69 years, Harold Don Lightfoot, Sr., son, Russell and Gina Lightfoot; daughter, Connie Tedford; grandchildren and their spouses, Meredith and Michael Reed, Roger and Kayle Tedford, Lance and Ashley Tedford, Alicia and Lee Smithers; great grandchildren, Emmersyn Reed, Easton Reed, Maybree Tedford, Nixon Tedford, Averly Tedford, Jordyn Tedford, Kolbi Tedford, Rowan Smithers, Everlee Smithers, and Aden Smithers. Numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
There will be a memorial service at a later date.
