Bobby Gene Mitchell, age 62, of Mount Pleasant, Texas passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024, at 6:34 pm in Longview, Texas at Christus Good Shepard Medical Center. Bobby was born on June 24, 1962, at Titus County Memorial Hospital, to Alford Missouri and Lucy Florene (Allen) Mitchell in Mount Pleasant, and was 1 of 10 children, 5 boys and 5 girls. Bobby was the youngest of the boys, and his siblings always told stories of how he was spoiled, that he was always being carried around, and was his sister’s live doll. Bobby has 3 surviving siblings, his brother John Mitchell, and 2 sisters Betty Montelongo, and Tammy Mitchell. Bobby was very close with his siblings and spent a lot of time with John and Betty as they were neighbors for many years. They are devastated with the loss of their brother.
Bobby worked as a mechanic in his life, along with many other types of jobs, but was currently retired/disabled. Bobby married Daka Landrum on November 1, 1979, and then their long life together began. Bobby and Daka grew up together, learned how to be adults, and parents together. Bobby comes from a very large family, as well as his wife Daka, and many memories were created at Dellwood park, at different family members’ houses, around dinner tables and grills. Bobby and Daka felt it was important for their kids to be close to their aunts, uncles and cousins, and deep relationships were formed. He was a member of the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, where he was baptized, and spent many years there with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alford and Lucy Mitchell; great granddaughter Bonnie Brown; brothers; Danny Mitchell, Smokey Mitchell and Harold Mitchell; sisters; Flora Jean Mitchell, Sandra K Potter, and Patsy Mitchell; Nephew, Chad Mitchell, and great nephew, Dakota Charlton.
Those left to forever hold his memory close to their hearts is his wife of 45 years, Daka Mitchell; and their 2 children- his daughter Kristy Siler 45 (Cosmo Taylor) ; son, Koby 44(Jamie) Mitchell; grandchildren, Tori (Caleb) Baker, Christian Siler, Emily Fidell, Noah Siler, Bell Williams, Branton (Victoria) Brown, and McKinley Mitchell; Great grandchildren, Kamryn Mitchell, Kendyll Mitchell, and Mallory Baker; sister, Betty (Luis) Montelongo; brother, John Mitchell; and sister, Tammy Mitchell; Bobby had great relationships with his daughter in law Jamie Mitchell, and son in law Cosmo Taylor, and they have been rocks to their spouses as they navigate losing their dad, while also carrying their own pain from the many years he was a part of their lives, and Daka, Kristy, and Koby would like to pay special recognition to them.
Bobby and Daka met when they were 15 years old and were together from there on. They went on to have their first child Kristy (Mitchell) Siler January 5,1979, and a year later they had their son Koby Mitchell January 7, 1980. The almost 46 years Bobby and Daka shared were full of highs and lows, but through it all they stuck together, and they loved each other through it, through sickness and in health. Bobby was a jack of all trades, as well as a phenomenal mechanic in his younger life. His wife Daka shared that he considered his two children to be the greatest accomplishments in his life, and they gave him the most joy. She says that he loved being a father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Bobby’s youngest granddaughter Bell Williams looked up to her papa so much, and he was a huge part of her life, and was more than a papa, he was a father figure to her, and they were inseparable. Bell and her papa used to go to the cemetery and keep the family stones clean, he taught her to respect everybody whether you knew them or not, and she will forever cherish the relationship they had. Bobby had a special relationship with each of his grandchildren, and loved watching each become their own person, with their own special interests. His oldest granddaughter Tori Baker made him a papa and he adored her, she spent much of her young life attached to him and always enjoyed laughing along to his many silly jokes. He was always there for her and she looked up to him throughout her life. Bobby was so very proud to become a grandfather December 11, 1997, and told anyone who would listen about Tori. His granddaughter Emily Fidell came into his life and completed a long missing piece of the family. She cherished the years they had together and the memories they had a chance to make by reuniting. After years of missing our family, coming home and getting to know him made her life complete, it wouldn’t have been the same without him, and she never doubted his love for her. His oldest grandson Branton Brown spent a lot of time with his papa who taught him numerous life skills over the years he will never forget, and he will forever cherish his wisdom and endless laughs. Bobby was there for his granddaughter Mckinley Mitchell from the time she was born, he watched her grow and was someone she could talk to no matter what, and always gave her grace as she was learning to become a young woman. He taught her how to be a man without being a man, and helped build the foundation of who she is. Bobby and Daka lived with their son, daughter in law and kids for several years building memories they cherish forever. Bobby’s grandson Noah Siler, and Christian Siler live in Tennessee, when they were little Bobby and Daka kept them during a summer, and they still tell funny stories from that time, and share those beautiful memories they had of them.
The loss of Bobby has been a profound one for his family, as it was sudden, but they all were so grateful to be able to stand by his side when he went to be with Jesus. Their family will never be the same without him, but each will carry his memory on the rest of their lives, speaking his name frequently, telling the many stories he told over and over again, and comforting one another when the loss feels too much.
Anyone who knew Bobby knew he was a strong personality, he leaves his legacy with his wife, two children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as cousins and friends. Bobby was an avid storyteller and had the best laugh. He loved joking around and had the most beautiful hair that everyone in the family loved. He loved working on bicycles and dreamed of one day opening his own bicycle shop. He loved stones, along with his daughter and they were avid collectors. He had a wonderful collection of stones, and it was a hobby of his, along with collecting coins, and knives.
Bobby’s wife Daka wants to give a special thank you to Robby Phifer for all his help, and to Shane and Ginger Potter’s son, Triston Potter, for the beautiful prayers over Bobby. She also wanted to thank her daughter for being her rock through this loss and helping her to navigate as she finds her new normal. She would like to thank her son for all his help and coming over to help and be there for her. The family asks you to pray for them as they find their way without Bobby, and to speak his name often to keep his memory alive, to remember his jokes and stories, and to cherish the memories they had with him, because his family forever will.
