Funeral Services for James Laird Helfferich will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at West Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Dustin Cowden officiating. Matt Thomas, Justin Harrington, Tommy Helfferich, David G. Helfferich, Jeffrey Johnson, and Reggie Williams will be serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and Interment will follow the service at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery. Mr. Helfferich passed away on August 25, 2024, in Plano, Texas.
James was born on May 23, 1938, to Vernon and Gertrude (Elizabeth) Helfferich in Ford City, Pennsylvania. He married Martha Harwell on July 31, 1961. James served in the United States Army for over 20 years and was presented with the Bronze Star. After retirement from the Army, he worked for Broke F Farm Supply and Salvage in Commerce, Texas. James enjoyed woodworking and cake decorating as well as his John Deere.
He is survived by his sons, James “Jim” V. Helfferich and his wife, Tracey, David Helfferich and Sam Helfferich; daughter, Kathy Johnson and her husband Delbert; grandchildren, Michelle and her husband, Matt, Jennifer and her husband, Justin, Jeffery, Jimmy and his wife, Whitney, Bridgette, Andy, Tommy, Lacey and her husband Mauricio, Brittany and Dustin; great-grandchildren, AJ, Avery, Jacie, Julie, Hadley, Wade and Brintlie
James was preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley; son, Raymond; great- granddaughter, Abby; grandson, Michael; his loving companion and best friend, Muttley; sister, Alice and two brothers, George and Eugene.
