Wesley Thaxton Collins

Wesley (Sonny) Thaxton Collins passed away at his home in Sulphur Springs, Texas on August 21, 2024 at the age of 80. In his passing he was surrounded by his loved ones, peacefully and without pain.

Wesley is predeceased by his daughter, Sharon Denise Collins; his mother, Nora Montgomery; his sisters Aileen, Kathleen and Linda.

Wesley is survived by his loving wife, Margret Collins, of 61 years. They were married in McKinney, Texas on June 28, 1963. 

Wesley is lovingly remembered by his sister’s Dorris, Betty, and Kristen. His children Pamela Anderson of Watauga, Texas; Brian Collins of Sulphur Springs, Texas; Angela Harris of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. His grandchildren Trevor Collins, Tyler Collins, Jonathan Collins, Autumn Anderson, Haley Anderson, Ashlynn Harris and Chloe Harris. As well as his great grandchild Aaliyah Collins.

Wesley was born in McKinney, Texas on March 5th, 1944. He received his GED from the State of Texas on September 23, 1991. He went on to earn many certifications and awards such from the United States Army Infantry School in November of 1963; Department of the Army Certificate of Training on August 19, 1966; the Victory New Testament Fellowship on January 8, 1970; his Ministerial Credential on February 22, 1971; and his Certification of Ordination on August 16, 1980. 

Aside from his service in the Army and all of his certifications, he worked as a Mechanic Assistant Superintendent at 4 golf courses over the course of 30 years.

Wesley had many enjoyments in life. From his hobbies of gardening, carpentry, fishing and traveling; to his deep enjoyment of helping others shown from his missionary work in Mexico. 

His role in life was to serve God. To protect and provide for his family.  He is deeply cherished by his family, friends and anyone he helped.
