Michael Morris, 64, of Galveston, Texas, was called home to be with the Lord on November 13, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Arlington, Texas, to Betty Jean Bowden and Kenneth Ray Morris on the evening of Wednesday, May 4, 1960, Michael grew up as the younger brother to Ricky but often acted as the protective big brother. Their childhood adventures often took them to their grandparents’ farm in Purley, Texas—a place Michael cherished so much that, when given the choice between visiting Disneyland or the farm, he chose the farm every time.
From ages 10 to 17, Michael spent his days in Louisiana hunting, fishing, and riding dirt bikes. In later years, he upgraded to a burnt-orange Ford Pinto, which he used to teach his high school sweetheart, Toni, how to drive. In 1980, the couple welcomed their first daughter, Kasey, followed by Kelly in the summer of 1984.
Later that same year, Michael’s life took an unexpected turn when he suffered a traumatic head injury after falling three stories while working in construction. Though this event brought challenges, it also brought resilience and healing, leading to the arrival of his third daughter, Kinsey, in 1987.
Despite being wheelchair-bound, Michael’s determination and zest for life knew no bounds. He defied limits by driving cars, riding bicycles, and becoming a source of inspiration to all who knew him. In his later years, Michael found joy and mastery in chess, often playing with his beloved girlfriend, Anna.
Michael is survived by his father, Kenneth Ray Morris, and his stepmother, Beverly Morris; his three daughters, Kasey Morris, Kelly Holcomb, and Kinsey Chadick; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Avant, and his brother, Richard “Ricky” Morris.
To those who knew him, Michael was known as Big Mike, Dad, or Bud. His warmth, strength, and boundless love will forever live in the hearts of those who cherished him.
