January 27, 2025 – The City of Mount Vernon in Franklin County has been awarded a $325,000 non-urban outdoor grant to support renovations and development at Little Creek Park. This funding will go toward enhancing the park’s facilities to better serve the community and promote outdoor recreation.

Key elements of the project include the addition of a modern playground, providing children with a safe and engaging space for play. The sports courts will be resurfaced and restriped, ensuring they are in top condition for activities such as basketball and tennis. To improve comfort and usability, shade structures will be installed, along with updated site amenities like benches and picnic tables.

The project also emphasizes sustainability, incorporating native landscaping to beautify the park and support local ecosystems. New signage will be added to improve navigation and highlight the park’s features. These upgrades aim to create a more welcoming and enjoyable environment for residents and visitors alike.

This grant, part of a broader effort to enhance outdoor spaces in smaller communities, reflects Mount Vernon’s commitment to investing in public spaces and fostering a sense of community. Once completed, the renovations at Little Creek Park will provide an upgraded recreational hub for Franklin County families.

The City of Cooper in Delta County has been awarded a $150,000 small community grant for upgrades at Harmon Park. The project includes installing a new playground with safe surfacing and adding additional playground equipment to enhance recreational options for children.
