Quitman

In Loving Memory of Elton Lee Boubel

Elton Lee Boubel of Quitman, TX, a man whose heart was as big as his sense of humor, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at the age of 80. From Somerset, Texas, born on September 19, 1944, he spent his life making the world a better place by serving and supporting others.

Elton never met a stranger—known as the king of one-liners, he had a way of making everyone feel loved and welcome, whether through a quick-witted remark or a kind, knowing smile. He carried an unwavering kindness that made people feel at home in his presence.

A master mechanic by trade, Elton could fix just about anything. He was a past Master Mason and member of the Eastern Star, dedicating much of his life to faith, fellowship, and service to others. Raised in the Lutheran church and a member of Quitman FBC, he also served as a nondenominational pastor, sharing his love, encouragement, and boundless compassion with the Holiday Village community as well as officiating several family weddings.

Elton has been reunited in heaven with his wife, Wanda, and his brother, David Boubel. Though our hearts ache in his absence, his love continues to shine through his daughters, Tina Lynette Bennett and husband Paul, Wendy Lee Shepard and husband David, and Candy Dianne Lee, grandson Zachary Ryan McClary, as well as his cherished sister, Alice Kneifel and family, and brother, Paul Boubel and family. Also survived by many stepchildren and grandchildren.

He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was rolling strikes in his bowling league, sharing stories over a cup of coffee, or filling a room with laughter. His presence was a gift, and his legacy is a reminder that love and laughter are the most precious things we can leave behind.

A celebration of Elton’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas, where stories, smiles, and maybe even a few of his famous one-liners will be shared in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Dementia Society of America.

With our condolences.
