Robert Louis Cantu

Robert Cantu, known throughout his life as Bobby in his younger years and later as Ranger Cantu or Bob Cantu, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 19, 2025. He was born on January 3, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas, where he spent his early years before dedicating his life to service, education, and personal safety advocacy.

A proud U.S. Army Ranger, Bob served in the 75th Airborne Ranger Division. His time in the military shaped his discipline, resilience, and deep commitment to protecting others. As Ranger Cantu, he carried the values of honor, integrity, and preparedness throughout his life. Following his service, he used his experience and knowledge to author POINT-MAN: Self-Defense Strategies and that empowered countless individuals with practical self-defense techniques and situational awareness skills.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Raul Davidson; his biological father, Robert Cantu; and his eldest sister, Linda Brumley.

He is survived by his two sisters, Christina Aguilar and Mary Preston of San Antonio, Texas; his oldest daughter, Billie Ibarra, and her husband, Leo, of Pickton, Texas; and their two children, Devyn and Jessica, from his first marriage to Josephine Reed. Bob is also survived by his beloved wife, Kil Sun Cantu “Suna” Cantu, and her children, Raul Cantu and Tara LaPierre. Tara and her husband, Josh, have one child, Claire, while Raul and his wife, Mari, have two children, John and Alina.

Bob had a deep love for his family, his country, and his community. He was a mentor to many, always willing to share his knowledge and lend a helping hand. His passion for self-defense, personal safety, and preparedness left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Ranger Cantu’s legacy is one of courage, dedication, and service. His impact will continue to be felt through those he inspired, taught, and protected.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Bob’s memory.
