A baby girl, Jackie Verne, was born to Jack W. and Melverne Hargis Glosup on May 7, 1935. Jackie spent her childhood in the Posey and North Hopkins communities and graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1953.
She worked for Lone Star Gas Company until June 28, 1956 and on that date married the love of her life, Clyde Bowling. They were blessed with two sons, Larry and Terry, and moved to Mineola in 1968. She worked for East Texas Savings and Loan for 22 years and then retired from Swepco.
Jackie and Clyde were active in the community and were presented with the Humanitarian of the Year award in 2004.
Jackie had many great memories of travel with family and special friends. She is best memorialized by the plaque in her home saying “If I’m not here, check Branson”.
Jackie and Clyde were active in the First Baptist Church and worked in the Children’s Department for over 30 years. Jackie was a member of the Sonshine Sunday school class.
She was an active member of the Mineola Lions Club and was involved in the local club and District since 1990. She received a number of prestigious awards with the Lions Club. Jackie was a camp director for four years at the Texas Lions Camp and was honored with the highest award when inducted into the Texas Lions Hall of Fame in 2013.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clyde, in 2006 after 50 years of marriage, and her last canine companion Ginger.
Left to cherish her memory are her wonderful sons and precious daughters-in-law, Larry and Cindy Bowling of Mesquite, Texas and Terry and Faith Bowling of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; her much-loved grandsons Dr. Jake Bowling (Dr. Kate Dickson) and Jack Bowling, both of New York, New York; many extended family and friends; and many grand-dogs and grand-cats.
Jackie will be buried at Restlawn Memorial Park in Sulphur Springs under the direction of Beaty Funeral Home.
Friends and family are invited to her memorial service and reception to be held at Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola on Monday, March 31 at 2 pm.
