Northeast Texas Counties Enacting Burn Bans

March 20, 2025 – Several counties in Northeast Texas have implemented burn bans due to dry conditions and an increased risk of wildfires. Fannin County enacted a burn ban effective March 14, 2025. Morris and Upshur Counties banned outdoor burning this week. Officials cite low humidity, high winds, and a lack of recent rainfall as key reasons for the precautionary measure.

Despite similar weather conditions, Hopkins County has not yet issued a burn ban. Officials continue to monitor the situation closely, urging residents to exercise extreme caution when burning debris, grilling, or using outdoor fire pits. The Hopkins County Fire Department has warned that dry grass and strong winds could quickly fuel dangerous wildfires, even in the absence of an official ban.

Residents in burn-ban areas must refrain from open flames, campfires, and burning brush or trash, while some agricultural and controlled burns may require special permits. Violating a burn ban can result in fines and other penalties.

Authorities urge Northeast Texas residents to stay updated on local fire conditions, follow safety recommendations, and report any signs of wildfires immediately. As conditions remain dry, more counties may implement burn bans in the coming days.
