Michael Brooke Gilreath

A Memorial Service for Michael Brooke Gilreath will be held at First United Methodist Church, Thursday, April 24, 2025, 2:00 p.m. in the Prayer Garden. Mike was born in Houston, Texas, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, delivered late in the afternoon of June 29, 1962, by the same doctor that had delivered his mother. He was the middle son of Judith (Judy) Moriniere Gilreath and Charles Nelson Gilreath.

He attended Austin Grade School with his close friend from first grade, David Perry. Mike had a very happy and fun-filled childhood, especially in the summer with his buddies at the Sulphur Springs Country Club swimming and golfing.

In high school, he lettered in golf for three years and graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in the class of 1980. After high school, Mike attended Southwest Texas State University and transferred to East Texas State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration.

For several years he was employed by Deerwood and Kingwood Country Clubs in Kingwood, Texas. He returned home and worked at Nelson’s Corner Drug and then at Clayton Homes for 13-1/2 years.

Mike is survived by his mother, Judy, and brother, John Lindsay Gilreath, as well as his Uncle Jack and Aunt Anne Moriniere of Houston, Texas; nephews Jackson and Steven Gilreath; Great Nephews Logan, Leighton and Lincoln Gilreath, all of Sulphur Springs, Texas. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Nelson Gilreath and brother, Steven Nelson Gilreath and his grandparents Nelson and Louise Gilreath and Judy and E.C. Moriniere.
