If his speeding wasn’t enough to garner the attention of police, nearly running into the back of the officer’s patrol vehicle will surely do so, a Pittsubrg man learned early Saturday morning.
Sulphur Springs police reportedly stopped the Chevrolet 2500 for driving 82 miles per hour in a 75 mph speed zone on Interstate 30 at mile marker 132 east at 12:05 a.m. July 27. The vehicle nearly struck the back of the patrol vehicle, causing the officer to take evasive action, Sulphur Springs Police Lt. Eddie Moon and Officer Buddy Williams alleged in arrest reports.
On contact, police alleged a strong alcohol odor was emitted from 23-year-old Pittsburg man’s breath and he also exhibited signs and indicators of being intoxicated on alcohol. He was taken into custody after failing all field sobriety tests administered. He blew 0.175 and 0.190 on breath tests, more than twice the legal 0.08 limit as well as over 0.15, which enhanced the charge DWI charge to a Class A misdemeanor offense, according to arrest reports.
He remained in the county jail late Saturday morning. His bond was set at $2,000 on the charge, according to jail reports.
