This week has ended very cold and wet compared to the nice weather we had mid-week. January is quickly coming to a close and it already seems like 2015 is flying by.
My sympathies this week to the Millsap family. I was honored to serve as a pallbearer at my Aunt Ruthie Millsap’s funeral this past Sunday. Ruthie Edna (Brown) Millsap passed away Jan. 14 in Pasadena, Texas. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Jan. 18, in West Oaks Funeral Home chapel with interment following in Miller Grove Cemetery. She was born July 25, 1928 in Yantis to Charlie and Effie (McCormick) Brown. She was the last surviving child out of a family of eight. She married Charlie Clinton Millsap on Feb. 18, 1947 in Sulphur Springs. He preceded her in death on Jul. 8, 1965. Ruthie married Jessie Lee Millsap on Oct. 3, 1975, in Paris, Texas. He also preceded her in death on Apr. 30, 1993. For the last few years she took turns living with each of her children. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven siblings, and one granddaughter, Melissa Rose Millsap. Survivors include her sons, Charles Millsap and Donnie Millsap; daughters, Elizabeth Adams and Patricia Mullins; six grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. I’m sure several of you remember when Ruthie’s children went to school at Miller Grove.
Just a reminder that Stacey’s Fish Fry is now open on Thursday night. I passed by this Thursday night and saw a few cars there. I’m sure business will pick up when more people realize the additional day they are open.
Friday, Feb. 6, will be Miller Grove’s annual Homecoming basketball game. Hope to have a large crowd this year to cheer our Hornets to victory!
Happy Birthday this week to Melanie (Lynn) Clem on Jan. 19, June Watson and my uncle, James Ragan on Jan. 20, Cheri Tipps on Jan. 21, John Weaver on Jan. 22, and Susan (Scott) Crank and Eric Mabe on Jan. 24.
