June 15, 2020 – A 32-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was booked into Hopkins County jail Monday, for the second time in less than 2 months, according to arrest and jail reports.
Sulphur Springs Police Officer Silas Whaley reported seeing a woman walking near the intersection of Jefferson Street and Weaver Drive around 1:51 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2020. Whaley contacted the woman, identified in arrest reports as Jessica Lee Smith, to check her welfare.
A records check showed the woman to have an active warrant for her arrest. Consequently, she was taken into custody and transported to Hopkins County jail, where she was held for insufficient bond on a May 7 possession of 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, according to arrest reports.
Smith remained in Hopkins County jail late Monday morning. Her prior bond on the controlled substance charge was set at $10,000; the new bond was set at $50,000, according to jail reports.
