Miller Grove News by Brandon Darrow
Spring is officially here and the monsoonal rains we have had lately have really been greening up the rye grass in and around The Grove. I know we’re thinking, “Enough is enough” with the rain but I try not to complain since we have seen so many dry summers.
Last Friday morning Gail Garmon, Lewis Watts, and I went to KSST radio station to be interviewed by Enola Gay Matthews about our upcoming historical marker dedication ceremony for County Line School. We are hoping for good weather and a good turn-out of folks with a connection to the County Line community. The dedication service is set for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, Apr. 12, at County Line Baptist Church. If anyone has any photos or memorabilia they would like to share please contact myself or Gail Garmon as soon as possible. We are in the midst of gathering pictures and making copies to display in County Line’s Family Life Center so that people can reminisce while being served refreshments after the dedication.
Saturday I visited with Faye Tipps, Cheri Tipps, and Bobbie Woodard. It was good to see each one of them.
Sunday after church I went fishing with my cousins, Nathan Petty, Brian Evans and Miranda Frobish. We caught several catfish and a few crappie.
With the rain last weekend Miller Grove VFD didn’t have much of a turn-out for the predator hunt. I believe three teams entered. Hopefully there will be another hunt scheduled when the weather is more permissible.
My condolences to the family of David Key, MG local, that passed away last week. David was born David Wayne Key on Jan. 11, 1966, in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. He was the son of Bennie J. Key and Beulah Mae (Carter) Key. David was a 1984 graduate of Miller Grove High School and participated in high school basketball, going to the regional play-offs in 1983 with a top-notch team of players from “The Grove”. David recently resided in Paris, TX and passed in that town on Thursday, Mar. 19. He is survived by two brothers, Billy and James Key. He was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside services were held Saturday, Mar. 21, in Donelton Cemetery.
Upcoming school events will be: Apr. 3 – Prom, Apr. 6 – Dessert Theatre by the Drama department, Apr. 10 – FFA Stew & Auction, Apr. 13 – District Track Meet, Apr. 14 – Spring Pictures.
Anyone with connections to Miller Grove Cemetery is welcome to come to the annual Memorial Day and Cemetery Homecoming that will take place the first Saturday in May. I will relay more details as it gets closer to the date but Saturday the cemetery trustees met and finalized all of the plans for this year’s program.
