Paris Man Accused Of Tossing Pills, Marijuana Out Of SUV

A 26-year-old Paris man is accused of tossing pills and marijuana out when deputies attempted to stop him for speeding and failure to stay in his lane on State Highway 19 north Thursday night, according to arrest reports.

Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Tanner Steward alleged that Devonta Qukashawn Brown did not immediately stop, but instead continued north on SH 19 north across the bridge into Delta County. Brown admitted to tossing 28 grams of marijuana and about 30 Alprazolam (Xanax) pills out the Tahoe’s windows, Steward reported.

Feb. 26 is the second time this year and third time in the last 5 months that Brown has been booked into Hopkins County jail. He was last arrested on Jan. 2, 2021 on a possession of less than 28 grams of a Penalty Group 3 controlled substance in a drug-free zone charge; he was released on a $5,000 bond on Jan. 4 on that charge. He also was arrested Oct. 9, 2020 for no insurance/failure to maintain financial responsibility and no valid driver’s license; he was released from jail the next day on both charges, according to jail reports.
