A benefit will be hosted this afternoon (Saturday, Aug. 7) beginning at 4:30 p.m. in North Hopkins ISD cafeteria for Kara Lane, a 19-year educator who is battling Stage 3 triple invasive ductal carcinoma breast cancer.
Kara Lane is the mother of Kenna, who will be a senior this year. She is a single mom and has been a kindergarten teacher for the past 14 years and was in fact named Hopkins County Teacher of the Year in 2014. She attends Wesley United Methodist Church, where she serves in the nursery.
“She is a strong woman who takes on many extra jobs and tasks to make sure everyone is taken care of and puts everyone’s needs before her own,” according to the flyer posted for the benefit hosted by Michael and Stacy Hrabal.
The benefit gives the community the opportunity to rally around Kara and her family, to show support and let them know they are not alone in their fight.
Beginning at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 7, pulled pork sandwiches with sides will be offered for a donation. Food cooked by Lisa Doss Sprague and Susan Vaughn. A silent auction will also begin at 4:30 p.m., giving those present a chance to check out the available items and place their bids before the live auction, which will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, all in North Hopkins school cafeteria. Among items donated for auction are a welcome sign, fall decorations, pharmacy makeup, cooler, knives, buckles, shop light. paintball gun, Sister store goody baskets and bags, makeup kit and computer bag, soap goody box, bath and body works set, faith t-shirt, gift cards, NHISD caps and shirts, cross, hair products, welding materials, humidifiers, cups, jewelry, dish sets, metal art, thermal cups, candle, $50 value from hairstylist, shoes, wall décor, mixer, bowl, grilling set, a wallet and more, and those are just the silent auction items.
