Jereldine “Jere” Cunningham, age 88, of Sulphur Springs passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at her home in Sulphur Springs.
Jere was born on December 23, 1933, in Paris, Texas, to Joe and Eva Gertrude (Gibson) Ingle. She married Ben Lamar Cunningham on June 16, 1951, in Louisiana. He preceded her in death in 1994. Jere worked as the Dietary Supervisor for Woodhaven Nursing Home for many years and when she retired from there, she became a personal caregiver. Jere had a heart for helping others. She had an amazing memory and sense of humor, and always had a soft spot for animals. She gave generously to animal charities. Jere loved to dance and sing. She was a soloist in her church, First Baptist Sulphur Springs.
She is survived by her children, Ben Cunningham, Jr. and wife Jeanne of Sealey, Texas, Dr. Jeffrey Cunningham of Kyle, Texas, Lex Cunningham of Sulphur Springs, Texas, and Ellen Cunningham-Jaggers of Mount Vernon, Texas; grandchildren, Angie Cunningham-Thomas and husband Donny, Danette Lovelady and husband Aaron, Isaiah Tadlock and wife Melissa, Katie Jaggers, and Zoe Cunningham; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Trotter of Amarillo; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend of 50 years, Louise Mercer.
Jere was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben; three sisters; and three brothers.
Memorials may be made to an animal charity of your choice or to Choice Hospice.
The family will receive friends Sunday, April 24, 2022, at 2 p.m., with the memorial service immediately following at 2:30 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs, Spence Chapel, with Bro. Fred Lewis officiating.
