William “Dub” Matheny, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022, in Como, Texas. William was born on October 16, 1940, in Coleman, Texas, to parents, Horace and Tennessee Matheny.
William is survived by his daughters, Teresa Moore and husband Christopher of Antlers, Oklahoma, Karen Dalton and husband Phillip of Sulphur Springs, Texas, and Dorothy Friddle and husband Jesse of Como, Texas; son, Kevin Matheny of Commerce, Texas; sister, Patricia Jones and husband Dennis of Abilene, Texas; 9 grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
William is preceded in death by his son, Daniel “Danny” Matheny; wife, Judy Matheny; both parents; and sisters, Sonora Layman, Melba Pierce, Mable Morgan and Fredonia Barber.
William was known for his strong work ethic and his love for fishing. He enjoyed building birdhouses and coin collecting as hobbies. He will be remembered for his friendly nature and his sense of humor, always being able to make everyone around him laugh.
A visitation for William was held Friday, December 30, 2022, at Tapp Funeral Home in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Tapp Funeral Home. A graveside will follow at North Hopkins Cemetery.
