Graveside services for James Thomas Flanagan, age 71, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. , Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Tira Cemetery with Bro. Donny Gaddis officiating. A visitation at the Tira Cemetery will begin at 12 noon. Pallbearers will be Piter Tamsma, Joe Chance Smiddy, Tres Wright, Allen Robinson, Tim Loper and Emmett James Loper. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Anderson, Randy Harris and Darrell McDowell. James passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs, TX.
James was born on September 15, 1952 in Jonesboro, AR, the son of Charlie Edward Flanagan and Minnie Magdelene Hill Flanagan. He married Rita Ann Greer on October 25, 1972 in Jonesboro, AR. James worked for North Hopkins ISD in maintenance and also drove a school bus until he retired.
In addition to his wife Rita, he is survived by his son James Paul Flanagan and wife Alicia, daughter Deana Hale and husband Cori, bonus children, Nicholas Tamsma, Julia Tamsma and Rebecca Tamsma, brother, Chuck George Flanagan and wife Linda, grandchildren, Haley Blair and husband Jeremiah, Brittney Janae, Alijah Rose Flanagan, Abbigail Hale and Kolson Hale, great-grandchildren, Tatum Orozco and Ivan Orozco. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Tommy Jo Flanagan, Jimmy Wayne Flanagan, Frank Devol Flanagan, Rickey Lynn Flanagan and Larry Flanagan, sisters, Elizabeth Pearl Greer, Kathy Louise Jerkins and Linda Diana Brown.
