Graveside services for Edgar Leiland Walker, age 90, of Sulphur Springs, TX will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Restlawn Memorial Park in Sulphur Springs, TX with Corey Ponder, Chris Ponder, Matt Ward, Barry Ward, Joe Orren and Jace Orren serving as pallbearers. A visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M.-10:45 A.M. before the service at Murray Orwosky Funeral Home. Mr. Walker passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs, TX.

Leiland was born on April 13, 1933 in Arbala, TX to Roy and Dorene (Bryant) McClain. After his father passed away when he was young, he was adopted by Sydney Walker. After high school, he married Sue Burks in Sulphur Springs and shared seventy-one years of marriage. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean War. Leiland worked as a sales representative and retired from Philip Morris where he had earned the name “Marlboro Man” after over thirty years of service. He was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs, where he was a member for the last fifty years. He was very involved in church including singing with the choir. After his retirement, a true joy of his was to buy and restore classic cars. He was a member of the Hudson Club and Thunderbird Club.

He is survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Sue Walker of Sulphur Springs, TX; daughter, Debra Ponder and husband Vic of Sulphur Springs, TX; grandchildren, Corey Ponder and partner Leah of Austin, TX and Chris Ponder of Sulphur Springs, TX; also sister, Shirley Barker of Sulphur Springs, TX and many nieces and nephews.

Leiland was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Carolyn Stovall, Peggy Horton, Joann McClain and Rosemary Ryan.
