Milus Robinson, beloved by many went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 29th of 2024. Milus, the youngest child and only son was born November 24, 1930 to Samuel Francis (Frank) and Inez Ashberry Robinson in the Greenview community. Mr. Robinson had passed his 93rd milestone of life, which since early manhood had been spent in the service of God in the Baptist church. He served as a deacon for most of his adult years. His last church membership was at Emmanuel Baptist Church. He married Mary Nell Tubb on June 13, 1959 and remained a faithful husband for 59 years until Mary preceded him in death in October, 2018. Born to him and Mary were two children, Lou Jane Robinson Skillman (Milt) and Troy Edward Robinson (Becky). He was Papa to five grandchildren who are Sean English (Lesley) and Adam English (Tanya), Lucas Robinson (Kandace), Jo Layne Skillman and Dawn Weaver. Great grandchildren are Gregg English, Logan English, Allison English, Alan English, Preston Weaver, Evelyn Weaver, Austin Davis and Emilee Johnson. Preceding him in death are his parents, four sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah Robertson (Cleve), Frances Wheat (John), Oleta Ashton and Bobbye Wright (Tom). After the passing of his wife, he acquired a beloved companion: His cat Smokey Joe who kept him great company for the rest of his life.
Milus graduated Class of 1949 from Miller Grove High School.
Milus served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1949-1953 and 1955-1956 aboard the USS Mt Baker and the USS Bordelon. He began his career with Kraft Foods in Garland, Texas, and then relocated to his ancestral land in the South Liberty Community and was employed with Bonner’s Wholesale Hardware Company. He later became a security officer with Smith Protective Services. He was very proud of the excellent work he did with Smith Protective Services and considers it the high point of his working years.
While living in Garland, he became a member of the Texas Freemasons and remained so for the rest of his life.
Milus was our beloved and cherished Daddy who loved spending time with his family more than anything else. His father died when he was only ten and he spent his entire life working hard at whatever it took to support first his widowed mother then his own family. He instilled the love of God in his children, making sure that they were brought up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
Milus spent the first 82 years of his life as a resident of Hopkins County. He was raised in the South Liberty Community and in 1970 moved “to town” in Sulphur Springs. In 2013 he moved to Lake Cypress Springs to be closer to his daughter. As a result of his many years spent in Hopkins County, he knew many people and if he did not know them he would, within 10 minutes of conversation, would have formed an acquaintance. He loved talking to people wherever he went.
He was passionate about vintage country music and made several trips to Nashville achieving his dream of meeting his favorite country artist George Jones and hearing him in concert at the Ryman Auditorium. He loved to travel but was only able to do so in his older years but on any trip provided many interesting tidbits of information. He was fun to travel with as he was a positive person who enjoyed every new experience in life.
Milus did not have many earthly possessions, but he was a rich man as he spent his entire life laying up treasure in Heaven. The only consolation we have is that our beloved Daddy is reunited with his loved ones who have gone on before him. He is with the Lord in Heaven where we all aspire to be after our earthly journey.
