Joyce Ann Covarrubias (Hawthorne) was born on November 10, 1966, in Mesa, Arizona to Charles E. Hawthorne Sr. and Doris A. Counts (Smith. She passed away peacefully with loved ones by her side at East Texas Hospice in Tyler, Texas on June 12, 2024, at 11:05a.m.
Joyce was a class of 1985 graduate of South Mountain High School in Phoenix, Arizona where she grew up with siblings. She later moved in 1989 and held a job as a CNA at multiple nursing facilities, attending Paris Junior College for her LVN.
Joyce attended Cherry Baptist Church where she found love for the Lord. In 1989 she met Jose Covarrubias and to their relationship they welcomed their daughter , Maria Hawthorne in 1990 followed by their son, Joseph Covarrubias in 1993. Shortly after, they joined in Holy Matrimony on March 25, 1996. She took pride in her family and taking care of the neighborhood children as she treated them as her own, earning the name “Mama Joyce”. In her leisure time, she loved Bingo, the Casino, and spending time at family get-togethers, and making memories like dominating the domino table.
She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Hawthorne Sr.; grandmothers, Pearline Lewis Hawthorne and Hazel Marie Woods- Seamster; great grandmother, Everlina Woods; three grandchildren, Kiyeseah, Tiana, and Kiyana; her nephew, Eric “ Junior” Hawthorne; niece, Starla-Rae Hanson; her mother- in-law, Maria Isabelle Jaramillo and father-in-law, Alfredo Covarrubias-Garza.
Joyce leaves to cherish her memories with her husband, Jose Alberto Covarrubias of Sulphur Springs; mother, Doris Ann Counts (Smith) of North Hopkins; Children, Maria Hawthorne (Kendall Frazier) and Joseph Covarrubias (Bianca) both of Sulphur Springs, Texas; her bonus daughters, Shatobia Clayton of Houston, Texas and Jessica Arnold (Jamie) of Sulphur Springs, Texas; grandchildren, Santigo, Katalaya, Ezabella, LeiLani Covarrubias, Keidric, ZaKarriah, Zariah Frazier; bonus grandchildren, De’monshe, Keioshia, Cayne, Jaxon, Jenesis, Zethani; brothers, Eric Hawthorne Sr., Charles Hawthorne II, Louis Seamster, Johnny Seamster; sisters, Charlene Hawthorne and a host of cousins, aunts, god-children and friends.
