Funeral Service for Troy Conrad Garrett will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at West Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Joe Clark and Bro. Steve Cook officiating. Joe Robinson, Kevin Roed, James Crisamore, James Ross, Mike Nunnallee, and Cliff Barter will be serving as pallbearers. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Shooks Chapel Cemetery. Troy passed away on September 3, 2024
Troy was born on June 17, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri to Thomas and Exceber Garrett. He married Dovie Joyce Smith on April 4, 2004, and she preceded him in death on November 30, 2012. Troy was a member of United Methodist Church and served in the United States from 1946 until 1954, served in Korea and Guam and was in the Army National Guard until 1990 retiring after 23 years. He then worked as a truck driver for many trucking companies and worked for Borden Dairy until he retired. Troy also served as a hospital volunteer for Christus Hospital amassing over 6000 hours. He was a member of the VFW, was a Quartermaster for two years and a Commander three times over two and half years.
He is survived by one daughter, Joyce Connaughton and her husband, Larry of Sulphur Springs, Texas: grandchildren, Greg Connaughton and his wife, Becky of Emory, Texas and Kevin Connaughton and his wife, Marie of Hutto, Texas. As well as ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Troy was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dovie Garrett and his parents, Thomas and Exceber Garrett.
