Peggy Ann Long

August 11, 1947 ~ October 6, 2024 (age 77)

Peggy Ann Long of Sulphur Springs, Texas passed away from this life to eternal glory with her Lord and Savior on October 6, 2024, at the age of seventy-seven. While we would wish for more time together, we are thankful for all that the Lord allowed and that she no longer suffers.

She was a praying Mama, whose support and love were unconditional. Above all, she would want you to know that she loved and cherished her family, and her greatest desire would be for them to know her Savior and walk in faith.

Peggy was born to parents, Talmage (Joe) Birmingham and Opal Faye Terry Birmingham on August 11, 1947. She was later raised by her maternal grandparents, Jinks and Eliza Terry. Their faith in the Lord, love and guidance would influence her all the days of her life.

Peggy married her high school sweetheart, Ray Dean Long on July 4, 1964. Together they worked hard to build a life and raise their children, being examples of determination, work ethic, faith and love for one another, their children, and family. To them were born two children, James Craig Long and Paula Long Orr. Together they owned and operated Steamatic Carpet Cleaning for nearly 25 years in Greenville, Texas. Ray preceded her in death, after 37 years of marriage on June 28, 2001.

Peggy later married Richard Lee Smith on October 11, 2003. They resided in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Texan married the Oklahoma man appropriately enough on OU weekend. They were married for 10 years until his passing on November 5, 2013. Mom would recall this as the best 10 years of her life.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her children, Craig Long and wife, Michelle of Emory, Texas, Paula Orr and her husband, Brian of Sulphur Springs, Texas. Grandchildren, Sean Orr and wife, Lisa of Sulphur Springs, Texas and Heather Lyday of Greenville, Texas. Great-Grandchildren, twins Dawson and Simon Lyday of Greenville, Texas and Kyron Parris of Sulphur Springs, Texas. Siblings, Terry Morgan, Judy Morgan, David Morgan, Debbie Martinez, and Donald Ray Birmingham also survive her.

The family would like to thank the nurses, caregivers, and staff of Heritage Hospice. Their support and compassion were a blessing to our mother and family. The family would also like to thank the volunteers of Meal-A-Day, their service is a blessing to the elderly community.

In Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Angel Tree for the Elderly program or a donation to the Meal-A-Day in her honor.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Elm Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. with Bro. Mark Garrett presiding.

“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty One who will save. He will rejoice over your gladness; He will quiet you by His love, He will exalt over you with loud singing.” Zephaniah 3:17
