Funeral services for Janet Wheeler of Sulphur Springs will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Pete McNabb officiating. Interment will follow at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 9:00 a.m., at West Oaks Funeral Home.

Janet Wheeler was born on January 8, 1935 in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, Texas to Earl Perkins and Bernese Sewell Perkins. She married Joe Don Wheeler on June 11, 1954 in Sulphur Springs. He preceded her in death November 19, 2022. She is survived by a daughter Jeannie Kay Taylor and husband Richard, Allen, TX., and son Terry Joe Wheeler, Sulphur Springs, TX., three grandchildren, Lindsey Kay Honeycutt, Colton Ryan Wheeler, Victoria Faith Wheeler. She is also survived by a sister, Martha Kate Chapman of Sulphur Springs and one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Mathews, Beaumont, TX, and four nieces and three nephews.

After graduation from Sulphur Springs High School, she continued her education at East Texas State University, Southern Methodist University and Baylor University.

She started her career at Rockwell Valves, Inc. in Sulphur Springs, TX as secretary to the General Manager. Then she went to work for Peoples National Bank in Sulphur Springs as secretary to the President. She went through three transitions in that bank from Peoples National Bank to Heritage National Bank, Tyler, TX and then BancTEXAS Dallas.

After a twenty-five year career in banking, she retired as Director and Senior Vice President of BancTEXAS Dallas.

She was a member and Director of many organizations and committees both at First United Methodist Church and the community. She was a member of FUMC and the Messengers Sunday School Class for over 50 years. She was instrumental in organizing the Minute Managers Business and Professional Women’s Club in Sulphur Springs. She was a member of the National Association of Bank Women, Dial Study Club, Jr. Waverly Club and United Methodist Women.

After Retirement she enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, traveling, and game days with her friends.

Words that best describe her are: she was loyal, trustworthy and loved God, her husband, and her family and friends with all her heart.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Kidney Foundation.
