Wildcats Tennis Second Annual Invitational Tournament Friday

The Wildcat Tennis Complex is the site for Friday’s Second Annual Sulphur Springs Invitational Tennis Tournament. Wildcats Tennis Coach Tony Martinez said the event attracted eight teams and nearly 150 competitors. Coach Martinez said the weather was great with sunshine and little wind.

He said top teams in the event are Rowlett, Sherman and John Tyler. Coach Martinez added Paris brought their #1 boys singles player who went to the state tournament last year. All of the Wildcats varsity players are participating. Coach Martinez said in early action Friday, the boys doubles team of Blaine Flemens and Tyler Stout knocked off the #1 boys doubles’ team from Greenville, 8-4. Coach Martinez said the win would help his boys doubles team when it comes time to seed for the district tournament. Harrison Harbin also won an early singles match, 8-4.

The Wildcats also picked up some significant wins in a John Tyler tournament last Friday. Coach Martinez said boys #1 singles player Jesse Allen did a good job at that tournament. He said the boys doubles team of Alex Benitez and Jonah Kirkpatrick also played their way into the semifinals in the John Tyler tournament.
