The Saltillo Lady Lions’ softball team put up quite a fight before finally losing to Sulphur Bluff, 16-8 Tuesday (April 17).
The Lady Bears jumped out in front with two runs in the first inning and two more in the second to lead 4-0 after two innings. The Lady Lions tied the game 4-4 with four runs in the third inning. Sulphur Bluff scored six runs of their own in the third inning to take a 10-4 lead. The Lady Bears added another run in the fourth to go up 11-4. The Lady Lions fought back with two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to cut the deficit to 11-8. The Lady Bears scored five times in the sixth inning to stretch the lead to 16-8.
Tori Mobley and Chandler Bain pitched for Saltillo. Mobley struck out four and Bain struck out three. Bain was good with the bat for the Lady Lions going 4 for 4 with a home run, two triples and as single. Anna Reeder was 3 for 4 with a double and two singles. Madison Simmons was 2 for 4 with a double and a single. Paisley Kastner was 2 for 4 with a triple and a single. Christi Gurley was 2 for 4 with a double and a single. Mobley was 1 for 3 with a single and a walk. Shelby Matlock and Josey Bench were 1 for 4 with a single.
The Lady Lions play next at home on Friday (April 20) on Senior Night against Yantis.
