This week alone, a series of activities which benefit the community was held at the Seniors Center in Sulphur Springs, Texas. This was not exactly a special week, but a snapshot of the kind of good things going on there all the time! A free educational seminar about Medicare benefits, a meeting by a group which uses their knitting skills to benefit persons in need, and a Mini-Walk to raise funds for an Alzheimer’s Caregiver Respite program…plus Bingo, games, fitness and food events….that’s just a bit of what happens on a weekly basis for local Senior Citizens to get involved in!
Debbie Sheley and Ann Woodall with “The Retirement Gals” gave a wonderful and educational program about Medicare,
Medicare Supplements and Advantage Plans. Debbie has been working with Medicare for the past 33 years. She does not do sales… she does solutions. She works hard to give you information and helps you make the right decisions for YOU. Everyone’s situation is different. It isn’t a one shoe fits all. Everyone in attendance went home with a whole pie to enjoy. They will be back at the Senior Citizens Center on Monday, October 15th at 1:00 to talk about the new assistance that seniors with both Medicare and Medicaid can get this year.
The Shawls of Love Group that meets at the Senior Citizens Center
on the 4th Monday of each month has been making Little Christmas Stockings that will be filled with candy and given to some of the Nursing Homes residents in Sulphur Springs .The group could always use some more help making things for Hospice Patients, Nursing Home Residents and Cancer Patients. If you would like to help, call Hillis Bass at (903) 485-8165
During each year’s “Walk to Remember” season, Karon Weatherman holds a “mini-walk” at the Seniors Center as a fundraiser for the Terrific Tuesdays program. The Seniors Center walk joins eight others as a precursor to the major “Walk to Remember” set for Thursday October 4 at 6pm in The Gardens of Christus Mother Francis Hospital in Sulphur Springs. Your $20 registration qualifies you to join all the Walks in the series, and will be part of reaching the annual goal of $10,000 earmarked for the 2019 budget for Terrific Tuesdays. Come join local Seniors and help a great cause!
