Several Sulphur Springs High School students in FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America), advanced to state competition at the Region III FCCLA Meeting in Waco this past weekend. Twenty-three students took part in the competition.
State qualifiers include Zoe Wilson who took second place in Career Investigation and Mia Hicks who was first in Career Investigation, Senior Division.
In Culinary competition, the team of Ana Cortes, Michael Mercer and Lina Pacheco placed second, the team of Jessi Booth, Sydney Kuiper and Caleb Yanez took third place, the team of Madison Clark, Robert Koch and Kenny Perez and the team of Kelsey Conliffe, Valerie Lindsey and Ellie Thompson both competed very well. FCCLA Sponsor Debbie Stribling said the Culinary competition featured a lot of teams and was very intensive. In Cupcake Battle, Ms. Stribling said Samantha Medina-Powell and Carolyn Escobedo competed well in tough competition. In Food Innovation, Senior Division, Zachariah Goodson and Ariyana Whitfield placed second.
In Job Interview, Senior Division, Caitlyn Williams was second. In Recycle Redesign, Macy Moore was first.
In Toys That Teach, Emily Bocanegra and Breeanna Conliffe were second. Ms. Stribling said the Culinary team also took a cake to a Skills USA competition across town and took first place to advance to state competition.
Ms. Stribling said SSHS FCCLA also nominated SSISD College, Career Readiness Director Jenny Arledge for honorary membership at the Regional Level in FCCLA. FCCLA state competition will take place April 6-8 in Dallas.
