The Lady Cats’ softball team continued with their tournament recipe of solid pitching and great bat work to cook up two wins on the opening day of the Allen Varsity Invitational Softball Tournament Thursday (February 21). The Lady Cats topped Celina, 11-2 and then clobbered Hurst L.D. Bell, 16-0. The Lady Cats are 8-0 for the season.
Against Celina, the game started in a familiar way as Kelsey Wallace led off with a home run, her second lead off homer and her fifth round tripper of the season. The Lady Cats led only 2-0 going into the top of the third but then exploded for 7 runs to take a 9-0 lead. Brinklee Driver, Maddie Millsap and Kate Womack all hit home runs in the big inning. The Lady Cats added 2 more runs in the top of the fourth to lead, 11-0. Nylah Lindley hit a home run in the fourth. Landri Bell had a triple in the game. Driver had 3 RBIs in the game. Lindley and Womack knocked in 2 runs apiece. Allie Fite was 3 for 4 with an RBI. The Lady Cats had 12 hits. Addison Caddell got the pitching win allowing no runs and no hits over the first three innings. Tessa Holt pitched the last two innings allowing 4 hits and 2 runs.
The Lady Cats were really on fire against Hurst L.D. Bell winning 16-0. Bailey Haggerty got the pitching win with a three inning no hitter striking out 4. The Lady Cats scored 2 runs in the top of the first and then really went to work with 7 runs innings in the second and third. The Lady Cats pounded out 19 hits. Caddell was 2 for 3 with a triple, a run scored and 3 RBIs. Millsap was 2 for 3 with two doubles, a run scored and 3 RBIs. Driver was 2 for 2 with a double and 2 RBIs. Sierra Smith was 2 for 2 with a double and 2 RBIs. Fite was 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored and an RBI. Womack was 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Lindley was 2 for 3 with a double and 2 runs scored.
The Lady Cats are scheduled to play 2 more games in the Allen tournament Friday. The Lady Cats play Longview at 11 a.m. and McKinney at 3 p.m. with both games at Allen Station 3.
