The Lady Cats’ softball team used a 6 run third inning to take the lead and then the Lady Cats put down a Waco Midway uprising in the last inning to take a 6-4 win on day two of the Allen Varsity Invitational Softball Tournament on Friday (February 22).
Midway scored 3 runs in the top of the fifth but their rally fell short. Both teams had 7 hits and neither team committed an error. Among highlights in the 6 run third for the Lady Cats: Maddie Millsap hit a solo home run, her third of the season, Alli Fite singled in a run, Sierra Smith was hit by a pitch and a run was forced in and Kate Womack had an RBI on a fielder’s choice. Landri Bell also had an RBI in the big inning. Sadie Stroud had 2 hits in 3 at bats and she scored a run. Kelsey Wallace hit a double. Bailey Haggerty got the pitching win throwing 94 pitches, working 5 innings, allowing 7 hits and 4 earned runs with 7 strikeouts and 3 walks.
With the win, the Lady Cats improved to 9-0 for the season. The Lady Cats’ scheduled second game Friday with Wylie East was postponed due to rain. On Saturday, the Lady Cats are scheduled to play Frisco Independence at 1 p.m. at Allen Station 4.
