Lady Cats Soccer Remains Undefeated, Back in Action Tuesday

February 2023 – Coach Adriana Brena and Lady Cats soccer won big in Paris on Tuesday for their second straight win. Sulphur Springs won 6-1 in Paris on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

The women’s soccer team scored early and often in their Tuesday road-win.

Sulphur Springs scored four times in the first period in their blowout win. Even with Paris scoring in that period, it did little to cushion the blow as the Lady Cats scored twice more on Tuesday.

Following the 6-1 win on Tuesday, the women’s soccer team is 9-5 overall (2-0 district).

Remaining perfect through two games of 15-4A play, Coach Brena and her squad are the lone undefeated team in the district.

They took Friday off before heading to Pittsburg next Tuesday, Feb. 14.

Tuesday’s game in Pittsburg is varsity only, kicking off at 7 P.M.

Wildcats Basketball Hosts Senior Night Tuesday

Coach Brandon Shaver and his team are just one win away from completing a perfect 10-0 district season.

Tuesday has Wildcats basketball again at home on Tuesday, Feb. 14 hosting Pittsburg. The visiting Panthers remain winless at 0-9 heading into the regular-season finale.

On Friday Sulphur Springs began their two-game home-stand hosting Pleasant Grove, and for the second time this season the Wildcats win big over the Hawks, this time bye a score of 70-43.

A low-scoring, defensive affair at the onset, both squads wrestled for momentum.

It took until the closing minutes of the opening quarter before Sulphur Springs was able to build some distance between themselves and PG.

From there, it was all Wildcats all the time as Coach Shaver’s team went on to win big 70-43.

Another even scoring night for the men’s basketball team, two seniors finished ahead of the pack: Parker Whisenhunt and Kordrick Turner both scored 17 in the win Friday.

Theo McKelvey, Malachi Myles and Mac Rollison all got eight points Friday, followed by Branson Lynn with six.

Rounding out scoring in Friday’s big win, Gavin White and Cole Theofiledes combined for six.

Following the 70-43 win on Friday, Feb. 10 Wildcats basketball is now 27-7 heading into their final regular season contest.

Coach Shaver and his team have an excellent opportunity to wrap up a perfect district season if they take care of business at home versus Pittsburg (0-9).

Tuesday’s home date with the Panthers is Senior Night for Sulphur Springs, with festivities set to begin prior to the 7 P.M. tipoff.

That match will not only be broadcasted onto KSST 1230 AM, but Tuesday’s Senior Night matchup with the Panthers is set to be broadcasted onto KSST Radio’s Youtube channel.

Lady Cats Basketball Bi-District Opponent Firmed Up

Coach Bryan Jones and his team travels to Grand Saline Monday to play in the first round of the playoffs.

Lady Cats basketball takes on Van in Bi-District.

The Lady Vandals went a stellar 11-1 in their district, winning 16-4A and as a result heading into the playoffs as the #1 seed.

Sulphur Springs will have their hands full in the opening round of playoffs.

Coach Jones and his team last hosted North Lamar on Tuesday for Senior Night.

Hoping to upset the Pantherettes, coached by former head coach Brittney Tisdell, and early it looked as though maybe the Lady Cats could pull off the upset.

Leading by six, 13-7 in the second, coach Tisdell called a timeout and whatever she said to her troops worked as North Lamar outscored the Lady Cats the rest of the way 42-23.

Kenzie Willis had a huge night, scoring 14 in the Senior Night loss. Kyra Carter was next up with six, followed closely by Trinity Jefferson and Rainey Johnson at five. Codee Roland scored four with Addisyn Wall rounding out scoring with a free throw made in the third quarter.

Handing Sulphur Springs their fourth district loss, it slipped the Lady Cats down to 6-4. Tuesday’s Senior Night loss also snaps a four-game winning streak.

Unfortunately for Coach Jones and his team, that fourth district loss put them in a three-way tie with Paris and Liberty Eylau for second. Even more unfortunately, the Lady Cats ended up sliding down to 4th due to district tiebreakers.

Now, they travel to Grand Saline for the opening round of playoffs.

The women’s basketball team from Sulphur Springs on Monday takes on 16-4A champ Van in the Bi-District round of playoffs at 6 P.M.

Monday’s opening-round playoff game will be broadcasted onto KSST 1230 AM.

Wildcats Soccer Hosting Chapel Hill Friday

Wildcats Soccer Hosting Chapel Hill Friday

Coach Alexi Upton and his team play a third straight game at home on Friday, Feb. 10 when they host Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill.

Sulphur Springs is all too ready to wrap up a busy week, one which has seen her men’s soccer team playing three games over five days. Wildcats soccer won big 10-0 on Monday versus L.E. but their biggest win came Thursday night, hosting Paris.

The visiting Wildcats were originally scheduled to come to town Tuesday but had to be pushed back to yesterday due to the game being rained out.

Sulphur Springs went on to win 3-2 in PKS to stay undefeated in district play.

The two teams kept it tied heading into OT, both scoring a goal a piece. The game was too close to be decided in two overtime periods, so a PKS was necessary to end Thursday’s game.

Alexis Pasion scored the difference-maker in the 3-2 PKS win over Paris.

With their shootout win at home on Thursday, Wildcats soccer remains the lone undefeated team in 15-4A, now a perfect 3-0.

A buys week concludes with the third game in five days for Coach Upton and his squad when Mount Pleasant’s Chapel Hill comes to the Sulphur Springs Friday.

That game kicks off Friday, Feb. 10 at Gerald Prim Stadium at 7:15 P.M.

Top Coffee Store Changing Rewards Program In February 2023

Feb. 10, 2023- Starbucks announced that it is updating its popular loyalty program starting Feb. 13 to change how many stars are needed to redeem select items for free. Starbucks Rewards members drove 55% of the Seattle-based company’s U.S. operating revenue for its last quarter that ended in October, officials said.

As inflation continues to increase prices, several people have been flocking to Starbucks rewards and loyalty apps, helping the company increase digital sales.

Starbucks said it is changing some of the tier levels for award redemptions and shifting some items between tiers, “making them easier to earn.”

The tier levels that are changing:

  • 50 stars will be 100 stars.
  • 150 stars increases to 200 stars.
  • 200 stars will be 300 stars.
  • Iced coffee (not including cold brew beverages) and iced tea (not including iced tea lemonades) will be 100 stars, down from 150 stars.
  • Packaged coffee moves to 300 stars, down from 400 stars.
  • Select merchandise items will be 100 stars, down from 200 stars.

Starbucks said it is not changing how members earn rewards, which is two points per dollar when using a registered Starbucks card or one point per dollar with other payment options. There are ways to earn bonus stars through Double Star Days, games and personalized offers.

Here are the redemption tiers effective Feb. 13:

  • 25 stars: Customize a drink with an extra shot of espresso, dairy substitute, syrup or sauce up to $1.
  • 100 stars: Brewed hot or iced coffee or tea, a bakery item, packaged snacks and core reusable plastic to-go cups.
  • 200 stars: Handcrafted beverages and Cold Brew beverages or hot breakfast.
  • 300 stars: Lunch sandwich, protein box, salad and packaged coffee.
  • 400 stars: Signature mug, drink tumbler and coffee merchandise up to $20.
  • Other benefits: Not a part of a tier, but members also get a free Birthday Reward, a discount for using a reusable cup and free refills of hot or iced coffee or tea in-store.

Wildcats Basketball Clinches 15-4A District Championship

Wildcats Basketball Clinches 15-4A District Championship
basketball

Coach Brandon Shaver and his team picked up another huge win Tuesday, Feb. 7 in Paris.

Wildcats basketball soundly staked their claim as the number one team in District 15-4A by picking up their fifth win by 20 points or more in their eight district games.

It’s also the third straight such win.

More importantly, their 66-39 blowout win at North Lamar Tuesday clinches the No. 1 seed for Sulphur Springs.

The Wildcats hold a three-game lead with only two district games left.

Coach Shaver and his squad cruised to their win on Tuesday thanks to another even scoring night. Every Wildcat that entered Tuesday’s game scored.

Sulphur Springs got out to a commanding 20-6 lead after one quarter. Heading into the locker room, the men’s basketball team lead North Lamar on their home court 36-16.

While the Panthers saved their best for last, it did little except make the final score a bit more respectable at 66-39.

Parker Whisenhunt led the way Tuesday, getting several layups on fast break opportunities, scoring 17 in the win. After him came Branson Lynn with 11. Malachi Myles and Kordrick Turner, two more seniors, finished with nine Tuesday.

Coach Shaver and his team clinch the 15-4A District championship with their win in Paris, leading the competition by three games with only two left.

The men’s basketball team is 26-7 heading into their final two games, still a perfect 8-0 in district play.

They still have a big one on Friday, Feb. 10 when Pleasant Grove (6-3, 2nd in 15-4A) comes to Sulphur Springs. The Hawks look to upset the Wildcats on their home court on Friday as PG lost big at home to the men’s basketball team on January 14.

If Coach Shaver and his team beat the Hawks on Friday, Feb. 10 an undefeated district season is all but theirs, hosting 0-8 Pittsburg next Tuesday for Senior Night.

First, Sulphur Springs has to host PG Friday.

That game tips off on Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 P.M.

Total Solar Eclipse April 8, 2024

Feb. 8, 2023- On April 8, 2024 A Total Solar Eclipse will take place, visible only by certain states, Texas being among them. The duration of totality will be up to 4 minutes and 27 seconds, almost double that of The Great American Eclipse of August 21, 2017.

A solar eclipse is a event that occurs when at just the right moment, the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, causing the sun to become blocked by the moon totally or partially. In a total eclipse, the disk of the Sun is fully obscured by the Moon. During a partial and annular eclipses, only part of the Sun is obscured.

For your safety use only ISO certified-safe solar viewers, keep them on while the Sun is not yet fully eclipsed. Once the sky suddenly turns dark, and the solar corona appears, then you can take off your eclipse glasses or viewers to look at the Sun’s amazing corona.

Sulphur Springs will have a long duration of total eclipse, for a total time of four minutes and twenty seconds.
